-- The Consulate General of Vietnam in Nanning is working on legal procedures on funeral services for seven Vietnamese citizens who were killed in flash floods and landslides in Mengshan County, Wuzhou City, Guangxi Province, China last week. 

-- A recent investigation shows many of 70 medium and small irrigation works in 42 mountainous communes in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa prove to be ineffective despite a high cost to build them.

-- Thirty-nine of 41 projects to use forests in the south-central province of Phu Yen are violating regulations, according to recent inspection results announced by the Vietnam Administration of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Business

-- Malaysia is Vietnam’s seventh-biggest trade partner and investor, which recorded a trade value of US$8.4 billion with Vietnam in 2016 and a total investment of $12 billion as of May this year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said during a reception for visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman in Hanoi on Thursday.

-- Vietnam and New Zealand on Thursday affirmed their determination to raise two-way trade to $1.7 billion by 2020.

-- According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, Vietnam earned $176.4 million in catfish exports to the U.S. in the first six months of this year, a 5.7 percent decrease compared with the same period last year.

-- Vietnam has imported more than $850 million worth of vegetables and fruits during the first seven months of this year, double the amount of the same period last year.
