-- A tropical depression forming in the East Vietnam Sea strengthened into Storm Haitang and was heading toward China on Saturday night, bringing downpours and thunderstorms to southern Vietnamese provinces.

-- Eight people were killed and two others injured in a blaze that engulfed a confectionery workshop in Hoai Duc District, Hanoi on Saturday morning.   

-- Tran Anh Duc, board chair of Song Da 5 Joint Stock Co., told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper they were working with leaders of a hydroelectric plant in Bolikhamxay Province, Laos, to investigate the cause of a gas tank explosion that killed six Vietnamese workers and injured two others on Friday.

-- The Market Management Department in the central city of Da Nang has slapped a fine of VND15 million (US$652) on the owner of a seafood restaurant in Son Tra District for overcharging diners after a female tourist complained on her Facebook page that she had been ripped off late last week.

-- Representatives of more than 100 businesses in Ho Chi Minh City and Laos attended a seminar held on Saturday in Vientiane to boost cooperation in trade and tourist services.

-- Many consumers have complained about poor after-sales service offered by retailers in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Vietnam has received more than 7.24 million international visits within the first seven months of 2017, up 28.8 percent against the same period last year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has granted shipbuilding permits to another six businesses under a program meant to give a boost to the aquatic product sector.
