Nearly 3,000 people have joined hands in cleaning up the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang to prepare for the coming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit week.
A ceremony was organized in the central hub on Saturday morning to initiate the cleanup, which was partaken by nearly 3,000 people including the city’s leaders, officials, public servants, police and military officers, youth union members, and students.
The activity took place in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, called on all citizens to work to build a green, clean, and beautiful Da Nang.
The cleanup on Saturday morning is part of a series of preparations for the upcoming APEC summit week.
It is also aimed at encouraging local residents to join a campaign in which they will spend 30 minutes every Sunday morning keeping their neighborhoods tidy.

According to Huynh Duc Tho, chairman of the Da Nang administration, preparations for the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week are basically finished.
All locations where the main activities will take place have been constructed and upgraded to meet the requirements of the organizers, Chairman Tho continued.

APEC is a regional economic forum established in 1989, comprising 21 member economies, including Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam among others.
Running from November 6 to 11, the Economic Leaders’ Week is expected to be attended by world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
