-- Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held talks and witnessed the signing of 12 cooperation documents on Sunday, during the latter’s official visit to Hanoi.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Vietnam for the Philippines on Sunday, where he will lead a high-ranking delegation to attend the 31st ASEAN Summit from November 13 to 14.

-- Vietnam and the U.S. issued a Joint Statement at the end of the state visit by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, which includes plans for the first visit to a Vietnamese port by a United States aircraft carrier in 2018.

-- Storm Haikui, the 13th typhoon to hit Vietnam this year, weakened into a tropical depression when it reached the northern waters off Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago on Sunday.

Business

-- Vietjet and Pratt & Whitney closed a US$600 million agreement in which the Vietnamese low-cost carrier will use the American aerospace manufacturer’s PurePower Geared Turbofan engine for its order of 10 new aircraft, in an event, held during the first official state visit to Vietnam by U.S. President Donald Trump, in Hanoi on Sunday.

-- After one month of test run, M.Bike, an app-based xe om (taxi motorbike) service operated by Vietnam’s taxicab firm Mai Linh, will be officially introduced on November 20, in an apparent response to GrabBike.

-- Vietnam Airlines and U.S. aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney signed a contract worth more than $1.5 billion, witnessed by President Tran Dai Quang and U.S President Donald Trump in Hanoi on Sunday.

-- Many modern slaughterhouse operators in Ho Chi Minh City have threatened to relocate their facilities to other provinces after the municipal agriculture department announced its plan to license a local company to run an establishment where animals are manually slaughtered.

-- Even though the U.S. has withdrawn from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact, the American business community still encourages Vietnam to continue moving forward with high standard FTAs, Jonathan L. Moreno, chairman of AmCham Vietnam, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper in an interview.
