-- Vietnamese police on Saturday arrested and launched legal proceedings against Dinh Manh Thang, former chair of Petro Song Da JSC Co., to serve an investigation into a serious economic case. His elder brother, Dinh La Thang, had also been apprehended and investigated for his role in the losses of US$35.24 million in state-run oil and gas giant PetroVietnam’s investment in OceanBank.

-- The People’s Council of the south-central Khanh Hoa Province has approved a proposal put forward by the provincial People’s Committee to prospect for and exploit mineral ores on a total area of 7,800 hectares.  

-- Police in the southernmost province of Ca Mau have confirmed they had arrested a 52-year-old male suspect for attacking the owner of a shrimp farm in Phu Tan District and leaving him to drown after trying to steal the aquatic products.  

-- Huynh Duc Tho, deputy secretary of the central Da Nang City’s Party Committee and chairman of the municipal People's Committee, pointed out serious wrongdoings at the unlicensed construction of thousands of tombs at a local cemetery during his survey trip on Saturday.

-- Over 500 contracts and memoranda of understanding were inked at a conference held on Saturday to link demand and supply.

-- The market in Ho Chi Minh City is warming up as local consumers have been paying more attention to decorative products, including costly imported real pine trees, to prepare for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, while more businesses in clothes and food have also geared up for the festivities.

-- Speaking at a conference on Saturday, Hoang Quoc Vuong, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, affirmed a plan which will force consumers to switch from the popular A92 gasoline to the ethanol-mixed biofuel E5 starting January 1, 2018 will be a success now that preparations have been finalized.
