A video has surfaced on Facebook of a group of wrong-lane car drivers trying to remove the barriers on a bridge in Hanoi to move back to the right lane after noticing traffic police were on patrol ahead.
The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media of the poor behavior of the driver, as their action eventually led to traffic congestion.
The footage was reportedly filmed on Thanh Tri Bridge, which the cars had been traveling in the motorbike lane from Hanoi to National Highway No.5.
As soon as they noticed on-patrol traffic officers were traveling ahead, the drivers stopped and left their cars to remove the iron bars on the lane barrier, so they could easily move their vehicles to the right lane.
As seen in the video, the lane divider, made of concrete posts and iron connecting bars, was highly removable as the drivers had no difficulty ‘dismantling’ them.
A representative from the traffic police team 14 of Hanoi police said the unit has been briefed of the issue and is working to identify the drivers involved.
According to the law, anyone who removes, relocates or damages traffic signs, barriers and lights will be subject to fines ranging from VND3-5 million (US$132- $220).
The violator will also have to restore the damaged traffic property to its original state.
The act of traveling in the wrong lane is subject to fines between VND800,000 ($35.2) and VND1.2 million ($53).
