The chairman of Hanoi’s Quoc Oai District has not showed up for work for a week with his whereabouts unknown to colleagues and his phone unreachable, a district official confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday.
According to the official, Quoc Oai chairman Nguyen Hong Lam was supposed to attend a regular meeting of the standing committee of the district’s Party Committee last Tuesday.
However, Lam sent a letter asking for the day off to run some personal errands, a request that was then approved.
The chairman has since failed to show up for work without any further notice, as none of his colleagues or superiors had been made aware of the reason for his sudden disappearance.
Attempts to contact him have been in vain, as his phone has been constantly off for the past week.
“District authorities are trying their best to get in touch with the chairman to find out the reason for his disappearance,” the official said.
The district’s administration has made a report of the situation and sent it to the People’s Committee of Hanoi for further directions.
