A woman was caught off guard when a flame from the engine engulfed her motorbike in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, leaving nothing but the metal frame.

La Thuy Van, 50, a resident of District 9, was commuting to work on her motorbike from the district to the Saigon Bridge when the incident took place at 8:00 am.

She described a sputtering sound as she reached Hanoi Highway in District 2.

Smoke soon oozed out from her bike’s engine, and a fire followed suit, prompting the frightened woman to abandon her bike amidst the highway and run for the sideway.

She helplessly watched her bike engulfed in flames while a local nearby came to rescue with a fire extinguisher.

Not much could be salvaged however, as the bike had already burned down to its metal frame.

Van said the bike came to her possession about 10 years ago and had been her main means of transportation ever since.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police force of District 2.
