A new cold snap is forecast to push into northern Vietnam on Friday and continue freezing the region.
According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, northern localities have experienced extreme lows over the past few days due to a cold spell in the region.
Temperatures in high altitude areas, such as Fansipan Mountain and Sa Pa Town, dropped to below zero on Wednesday, leading to light snowfall.
As the cold front began to break on Thursday, temperature rose by about two degrees Celsius.
However, a new cold front is forecast to hit northern provinces on Friday, bringing the Red River Delta region, including a Hanoi, temperatures of between eight and 11 degrees Celsius.
The norm in Vietnam is 30 degrees Celsius.
Frost could potentially form in mountainous areas where lows are expected to drop below zero.
Light precipitation is also expected during the period.
Meteorologists expect the weather pattern to affect provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue in the north-central region.
According to Hoang Phuc Lam, an official from the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the incoming cold front will be different from the previous one as the temperature drops will occur mainly at night.
“Average temperatures will sit 16 to 19 degrees Celsius during the day,” Lam stated.
The cold front is blanketing the region until February 7, he added.
