Two killed, 11 wounded in passenger bus rollover in central Vietnam

Two people were killed and 11 others injured after a passenger bus lost its balance and overturned in Da Nang on Monday.

The long-haul bus carrying 29 people were traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to the north-central province of Quang Binh when it got into an accident in the morning.

The 30-seater bus was steered by 40-year-old Tran Quoc Viet and is operated by Phat Thinh Transport Cooperative based in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to a witness, the vehicle lost its balance while making a turn before rolling over.

Most passengers were asleep prior to the incident.

Two passengers, Tran Thi Ly Ly, 23, and Le Quang Tai, 24, were killed by the crash.

Eleven others were wounded and are being treated at the Da Nang Hospital.

After being notified, Huynh Duc Tho, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, arrived at the scene to direct rescue efforts.

The local administration also provided VND5 million (US$220) in support for the family of each deceased victim, while the injured will be treated free-of-charge.

Another bus has been provided for the other passengers to continue their journey.
