​Counterfeit MSG uncovered in Da Nang

Police in Da Nang City said Wednesday that they had confiscated mis-labled monosodium glutamate (MSG) discovered at a city residence.

Hoang Vu, 47, was apprehended by authorities for his role in transferring MSG made in China to bags labeled with famous brand names in at his home on Tran Cao Van Street in the central metropolis’ Thanh Khe District.

They found 43 one-kilogram bags of the fake MSG and 25 900-gram bags of seasonings.

Around 223 kilograms of MSG and other seasonings were also found, 125 kilograms of which came from China while the rest are of unknown origin.

The police found nearly 1,600 additional packages also used for the counterfeit spices.

Vu said he purchased MSG and seasonings at markets in Da Nang and used a sealing machine to put the seasonings in packing labeled with household brand names.

His products were sold to local restaurants, he added.
