Two people were killed and 12 others, including four foreigners, injured following a collision between a passenger bus and a trailer truck in north-central Vietnam on Sunday night.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, who is also chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, on Monday ordered a prompt investigation into the serious accident.
Official information showed that the road crash happened at around 11:15 pm on a section of National Highway 1 in Ky Dong Commune, Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh Province.
The passenger bus, steered by 45-year-old Tran Van Hanh, was traveling in a south to north direction at high speed when it rear-ended the truck, driven by 30-year-old Nguyen Cong Dinh.
Following the accident, Hanh and one passenger on the coach lost their lives, while 12 others were injured and later admitted to the Ha Tinh Province General Hospital.
Among the wounded were four foreign passengers, including two French nationals and two Danes.
According to the Vietnam Register, the passenger bus, with license plate No. 29B-600.50, was manufactured in Vietnam in 2015 and operated by the Hanoi-based Hung Thanh Transport Company.
The truck, whose plate number is 29C-560.77, was made in Mexico in 2011.
Both vehicles have undergone regular inspections in accordance with the law.
Initial investigation showed that the passenger bus running at high speed was the possible cause of the accident, according to local media.
A similar accident occurred on May 1 after a passenger bus rear-ended a tipper truck in the south-central province of Binh Dinh, killing two people and injuring two others.
