A man holding a managerial post at a rehab center went on a slashing spree in Hanoi on Tuesday, killing a woman and wounding two other female victims with a broad knife before taking his own life.

On Tuesday morning, Vuong Van Binh stormed into a house in Hanoi’s rural district of Soc Son, lacerating a woman named Nguyen Thi Thanh H., her daughter and a woman who was visiting the residence, according to police officers.

Binh, 49, was head of the medical department at a local state-run drug rehabilitation center while H. was his subordinate.

The woman was slashed to death, whereas her 16-year-old daughter was seriously injured and the visitor sustained a cut in the arm in the attack, police said.

Security camera footage shows that after rushing into the house with a machete, Binh swiftly ran up and down part of the stairs in an attempt to find someone.

Having seen H., he wildly slashed her multiple times, causing her to fall on her own blood.

Binh was also seen in CCTV footage pouring a petrol-like substance on the floor and setting fire to the house.

Neighbors told police they were only aware of the incident when H.’s daughter ran out of the three-story house while crying for help.

The girl, with many injuries on her body, fell to the ground several minutes after shouting, they said.

The visitor, having suffered a cut in her arm, rushed to the second floor of the house and managed to jump onto the roof of the residence’s gate and ran from the place, according to the neighbors.

Binh had escaped on his motorcycle before people went into the house.

A Soc Son leader confirmed that Binh killed himself on the afternoon of the same day, according to news website VnExpress.

H. and her daughter were taken to hospital but the mother died from severe wounds later the same day, while the young girl has been in a critical condition, with broken arm ligaments and multiple head injuries.

“I helped my mom,” the teenager told doctors who had asked her what happened.

The two victims were also doused with petrol after being attacked with the machete, one doctor said.

The case is under investigation.
