Police in Ho Chi Minh City are detaining a man who stormed into a bank in a robbery attempt, only to stay at the credit institution awaiting law enforcement to come and arrest him.
The suspect, 23-year-old Dang Hoang Bach, entered a branch of state-run VietinBank on Nguyen Son Street in Tan Phu District at around 2:40 pm on Monday, pulling out a knife to ask a teller to hand him money, according to police.
As the bank employee did not follow the request and locked the safe, Bach turned to keep a customer at knifepoint and took VND690,000 (US$30) from this person.
Security footage shows him holding the knife with its handle pointed to the threatened victim.
To everyone's surprise, after robbing the customer, Bach went straight to the security guard room, where he leisurely savored his cigarettes until police arrived and caught him.
The man is a local college student with no history of crime, according to officers.
