More than 100 Vietnamese scientists working all over the world came to Vietnam to attend AI for Vietnam 2018 Conference on Tuesday.

Held from August 18 to 24, the conference is a part of the Vietnam Innovation Network 2018 Project co-organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Education and Training.

The professionals are Vietnamese nationals working in different countries including the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, and France, among others.

All of the attendees are outstanding and accomplished academics, having graduated from the best schools in the world and having in-depth experience working with technology, especially in developing fundamental technology innovations such as AI, blockchains, or the Internet of Things.

Some of the scientists are Dr. Le Viet Quoc from Google Brain, Prof. Vu Ha Van from Yale University, Dr. Dao Ngoc Thanh, CEO & founder of Bap-Blockchain, Dr. Do Binh Minh from NASA, and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Le Minh from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology, AI Vietnam 2018 is organized in order to share the vision and strategic viewpoint of the country’s leaders, government, and Party.

It is important for the country to have access to and be able to utilize the most recent innovations as well as the outcomes of Industry 4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution) and implement these innovations in the core fields.

Moreover, the organizers believe that the event will connect, gather, and direct researches; as well as train, transfer, and implement AI in Vietnam.

The event is also expected to attract attention and the potential contributions of Vietnamese academics living, working or studying abroad, while creating a network connecting Vietnamese academics abroad with Vietnamese academics, scientists, and researchers in Vietnam in order to shape and implement these researches in Industry 4.0.

More than ever, those who are working on AI are receiving major support from the Party, government, other departments, and corporations, said Bui The Duy, Vice-Minister of Science and Technology.

Duy expressed his hope that there will be different research groups for different aspects of AI such as strategy groups, market groups, and development groups, in order to train, educate and research the matter.

The official is also hoping to see the scientists and researchers work together to create an effective AI development network in Vietnam.

Artificial intelligence (AI), intelligence demonstrated by machines, grasped the public attention in 2015 when a number of products implementing this technology surged, especially in Google products.

Ever since, the newest technology has raised many arguments and controversial opinions from the most influential figures all over the world, especially the ones working in tech industry.

One of the most well-known AI inventions is Pepper, the humanoid robot from SoftBank Robotics, whose most outstanding ability is to interact, communicate and recognize emotions in the most natural and intuitive way.
