-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse and a delegation of high-ranking officials left Hanoi on Sunday morning for Vienna, Austria, to attend the 12th Summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 12) and the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit (P4G), as well as pay officials visits to Austria, Belgium, Demark and a working visit to the European Union (EU).

-- The administration of Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam is working to repair severe damages caused by a tornado that swept through the area on Sunday afternoon during a thunderstorm, bringing down trees, billboards and utility poles in its path.

-- Two secondary-school students in the southern province of Long An were killed and several others injured when three medium-voltage power lines were stroke by lightning during a heavy rain and fell to the ground, electrocuting them, according to the local power company.

-- Poor quality of asphalt laying was the primary cause of the many potholes found on the Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway in central Vietnam only weeks after its opening, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho said on Sunday after a thorough inspection of the road.

Business

-- Vietnam’s fruits and vegetables exports have surpassed crude oil in terms of revenue as the country is optimistic it can export roughly US$4 billion of the produce in 2018, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said at a national forum on agriculture on Sunday.

-- Da Nang’s notorious business tycoon Phan Van Anh Vu, a.k.a. Vu ‘nhom’, has been prosecuted by Vietnam’s top court for “abusing power and authority to appropriate assets” in the loss of over VND3.6 trillion ($153.76 million) by Vietnamese lender Dong A Bank.

-- Vietnam’s agricultural and maritime products may benefit from the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China as they are subject to lower taxes from both countries, economic expert Nguyen Xuan Thanh from Fulbright University Vietanm asserted.

-- Vietnam has surpassed China as the largest supplier for Adidas, accounting for 44 percent of the American shoemaker’s outsourced products in 2017, Vietnam’s Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO) cited current statistics.

-- Six footballers playing at the 2018 National Women’s Football Championship in Vietnam have been suspended for five months after a violent clash on the field during a semifinal in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.
