Police in the north-central Vietnamese province of Thanh Hoa have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 27-year-old man for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration.”
The Thanh Hoa Police department confirmed on Wednesday that a manhunt is currently underway for Nguyen Van Trang, a resident of Thanh Loc Commune, Hau Loc District.
Officers previously initiated legal proceedings against Trang on November 27 for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration” but still have yet to locate the man and take him into custody.
A preliminary police investigation shows that Trang, while a student at Hoang Duc University, was reprimanded for repeatedly violating the school’s regulations and making extreme statements.
After being expelled from the university, he joined “Hoi anh em dan chu” (Brotherhood for Democracy), a reactionary organization whose stated mission is to eliminate the leadership of the Vietnamese Party and overthrow the people’s administration.
Police also said that his Facebook account, which uses the name Trang Nugyen, has been used to post stories, images, and video clips that distort the Party and state’s guidelines and policies, slander the political regime and incite others to cause public disorder.
