Six people were rushed to hospital after a female driver crashed her Lexus into seven motorbikes, a car and a taxicab on a street in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 pm along Trich Sai Street in Tay Ho District, according to preliminary information.

The Lexus first hit four motorbikes and an automobile traveling in the same direction, sending the female driver into a panic.

Following the crash, the woman started to back her vehicle, only to ram three other motorbikes and a taxi.

Six injured people, not including the Lexus driver, were hospitalized. Among the victims was a schoolboy who suffered serious injuries as he was stuck under the Lexus.

The luxury vehicle had its front deformed, while the other motorbikes and automobiles were damaged following the crashes.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene to probe the case and escorted the driver to the police station to assist the investigation.

She was identified as Nguyen Thu Trang, 29, who resides in Hoan Kiem District.

Officers also found out that Trang’s breath alcohol content was 0.7 milligrams per liter.

Under the current laws, drivers having a breath alcohol content from 0.4 milligrams per liter and higher are subject to fines of VND16 million (US$683) to VND18 million ($768).

They will also have their driver’s licenses revoked for four to six months.

In late October, Nguyen Thi Nga, a 46-year-old Ho Chi Minh City resident, crashed her BMW into five motorbikes stopping at a red light in Binh Thanh District, killing one person and injuring five others.

A test showed that Nga’s breath alcohol content was 0.94 milligrams per liter. She also admitted to drinking prior to the incident.

Nga was detained as police launched legal proceedings against her for serious traffic violation.
