-- Vietnamese Party chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, his spouse, and many overseas Vietnamese performed a ritual of releasing carp into Hoan Kiem (Sword) Lake in Hanoi to bid farewell to the Kitchen Gods on Saturday, as part of a series of activities within the 2019 Homeland Spring program.
-- Five people were injured after a passenger bus crashed into the fence along the Hai Van Tunnel, which connects Da Nang City and Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, at around 6:45 pm on Saturday.
-- An eight-grade student in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has been praised for returning nearly VND50 million (US$2,150) to the owner after picking it up on the way to a football game. He was also awarded VND1.5 million ($65) by the local administration for the good deed.

-- A four-year-old boy and his mother were waiting for a bus along a sidewalk in the central province of Quang Nam on Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a seven-seater automobile. The child succumbed to his serious injuries at the hospital while the mother suffered minor ones.
-- Officers in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City have arrested a 33-year-old suspect, who is a drug addict and HIV-positive, after he attempted to snatch a purse of a woman along Nguyen Thai Hoc Street on Saturday morning.
-- Authorities in the north-central province of Ha Tinh have apprehended four people who are involved in the smuggling of 120 bricks of heroin from Laos into Vietnam.
-- The Ministry of Transport organized a ceremony on Saturday morning to officially put into operation the Hung Ha Bridge, which spans 6.1 kilometers over the Red River and connects the northern provinces of Hung Yen and Ha Nam.

-- More than 200 surveillance cameras have been added at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to closely monitor the transport of luggage within the airdrome, thus preventing the loss of passengers’ belongings during the busy Lunar New Year holiday, said Bui Duc Thanh, branch director of the Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company.
