Another group of people has been filmed throwing a picnic party on the diagonal markings that separate opposite lanes on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway in northern Vietnam, after a driver was fined last week for a similar violation.
Footage filmed on a phone camera that was uploaded on social media on Friday shows a group of five people having a meal on the lane divider, next to a white sedan.
The area is marked by yellow diagonal lines, indicating that vehicles are not allowed to enter, stop, or park within its boundaries.
The clip was filmed by a passenger on a car travelling on the 265-kilometer Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway, which connects Hanoi and the northern province of Lao Cai.
The vehicle’s license plate number is not visible due to the poor quality of the footage.
CCTV cameras are also not installed on the entire length of the northern expressway, making it difficult to trace and extract a clearer image of the vehicle for fine issuance, according to the operator of the expressway.
Last week, a man was fined VND5.5 million (US$237) and had his driver’s license temporarily revoked for throwing a picnic party with his family members on the hard shoulder of the same expressway and live-streaming their own violation.
The driver was slapped with a VND5.5 million fine as well as a two-month revocation of his license for “parking his automobile along an expressway”.
