-- While Vietnam's plastic consumption per head is only 45 kilogams per year, compared to 200kg of Japan, the Southeast Asian country is among the top five countries that discharge the most plastic waste, the Vietnam Plastics Association said at a signing ceremony of its cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment on Wednesday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City reported 3,671 cases of measles in the first four months of 2019, a gigantic jump from a mere 20 cases recorded over the same period last year, according to the municipal preventive medicine center.

-- A 26-year-old cleaner at the Dat Phuong Nam Apartment in Ho Chi Minh City found and returned US$7,400 worth of cash to a Ukrainian tenant at the building on Tuesday.

-- VIETBABY 2019, an international exhibition on products and services for maternity, mothers and children and kids, will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from May 30 to June 2, with the participation of more than 150 local and foreign exhibitors.

-- Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung received a delegation of major French infrastructure and aviation enterprises in Hanoi on Wednesday, during which the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the Directorate General for French Civil Aviation signed an agreement on technical cooperation.

-- Ho Chi Minh City has started to pilot a system of school smart cards, which can be used not only as a means of payment but also as an entry pass and class attendance record, in an attempt to promote cashless payment.

-- A campaign to encourage the community to practice swimming for drowning prevention will be launched on May 19 at the culture, information and sports center of Long Bien District in Hanoi, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

-- Vietnam’s Hanoi FC and Becamex Binh Duong secured their places in the ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals of the 2019 AFC Cup on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Singapore’s Tampines Rovers and a 1-0 victory over Ceres Negros from the Philippines, respectively.
