An police officer has been suspended from work after he fatally crashed into a young man while driving a traffic police car in southern Vietnam on Sunday evening.
The police car mounted a sidewalk and slammed into a fruit stall in Minh Hoa Commune, Dau Tieng District, Binh Duong Province, at around 6:30 pm, according to preliminary information.
Nguyen Thanh An, a 23-year-old fruit seller, was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later the same day.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the police car was wearing casual clothes and did not seem to be sober.
Photos and footage of the incident were posted to social media that night.
In one of the videos shared on Facebook, the driver was seen attempting to give some money to the person who was filming him, while he remained seated in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Second Lieutenant Phan Hoai An, 30, who works in the traffic police division under the Binh Duong police department, the department said in a statement to the media on Monday morning.
An had been temporarily suspended from duty, departmental director Trinh Ngoc Quyen told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
“We will initiate legal proceedings against the policeman after gathering sufficient evidence,” the police chief added.
