-- At least one person was killed and 13 others were nowhere to be found as of Saturday evening, after Tropical Storm Wipha and its circulation triggered massive rainfall, flashfloods, and landslides in northern and north-central Vietnam.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered authorities in 16 northern and north-central localities to carry out prompt measures to deal with the consequences left by Tropical Storm Wipha.

-- Multiple streets in Hanoi were inundated for nearly 10 hours on Saturday due to prolonged downpours brought about by Storm Wipha.

-- A 35-year-old owner of a coffee shop in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong suffered multiple injuries after being attacked by a group of six masked debt collectors, who were armed with knives and machetes, on Friday evening, officers confirmed on Saturday.

-- Four people were killed and one injured after a sleeper bus crashed into a group of people standing in front of a market in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Saturday morning.

-- Dang Truong An, a 38-year-old deputy head of the People’s Procuracy in Tan Chau District in the southern province of Tay Ninh, has been arrested after being caught red-handed receiving a US$2,500 bribe from an individual.   

-- Doctors at Hue Central Hospital in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue have been able to remove a fishbone stuck in the bronchus of a 10-year-old Laotian boy for over a month.

-- The United States was the largest importer of Vietnam in the first seven months of 2019 with a turnover of $32.5 billion, a year-on-year surge of 25.4 percent, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

-- Luong Thuy Linh, a 19-year-old university student from the northern province of Cao Bang, was crowned Miss World Vietnam 2019 during the final of the beauty pageant in the central city of Da Nang on Saturday evening. Linh will represent the Southeast Asian country to participate in this year’s Miss World pageant in the United Kingdom in December.
