-- The north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An has plans to evacuate about 26,000 residents in its coastal district of Hoang Mai to avoid tropical storm Podul, which is moving on the East Vietnam Sea and is forecast to make landfall in the central and north-central regions of Vietnam on Friday.

-- There have been 30 cases of sexual abuse in Nghe An Province in the first eight months of 2019, double the figure in the same period last year, according to the provincial chairman Thai Thanh Quy.

-- It took firefighters about five hours to control a raging blaze that occurred at a warehouse of the Rang Dong Light Bulb Company and spread to several nearby houses in Thanh Xuan District on Wednesday evening.

-- Passenger bus tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta and other southern regions were sold out on Wednesday afternoon, two days before people in the southern metropolis flock to their hometowns to enjoy a three-day holiday in celebration of the National Day (September 2).

-- A 2,000-ton barge lost control and sank a canoe on a section of the Saigon River passing through Thao Dien Ward in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, on Wednesday afternoon.

-- Construction of a US$400-million waste-to-energy plant, which is expected to recycle 2,000 metric tons of waste per day in its first phase of operation starting by the end of 2020, was commenced in Ho Chi Minh City’s Cu Chi District on Wednesday morning.

-- Six hundred teachers of elementary and secondary schools in Nghe An Province, a locality with high rate of children drowning in Vietnam, are taking part in a mass swimming and drowning prevention training.

-- Streaming service Netflix has bought the copyright of the Vietnamese adaption of Descendants of the Sun, a popular 2016 South Korean TV series, with airing scheduled to begin on September 1.

-- Vietnam will play South Korea in the final of the Acecook International U-15 Football Cup, after beating Myanmar 2-1 in their second matches of the four-team tourney in the southern Vietnamese province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau on Wednesday afternoon.
