-- A high-ranking military delegation of Vietnam led by Sen. Lt. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, left Hanoi on Tuesday for a four-day  official visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces.

-- The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday opened the first-instance trial on 12 people accused in a high-profile case of trading fake cancer medicine at the Vietnam Pharma Joint Stock Company (VN Pharma).

-- The Politburo, the top decision-making body of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on Tuesday issued a landmark regulation on the control and monitoring of power in the Party’s personnel works and prevention of back-door appointments of unqualified people into authority and positions.

-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport on Tuesday said it had scrapped results of a contractor prequalification for eight projects to develop multiple sections of the Vietnam’s north-to-south expressway to revise the round’s terms and allow more domestic contractors to participate.

-- Nguyen Thai Luyen, chairman of Vietnamese real estate firm Alibaba who was arrested on September 18 after police raided the company’s headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, on Tuesday had criminal proceedings launched against him for “appropriating property through fraud”.

-- Le Thi Hien, a Hanoi police captain who caused a scene at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on August 11 over baggage and boarding issues, has been proposed to be demoted into a lower rank for her action, Dong Da District police said on Tuesday.

-- Vietnam’s military-run telecoms group Viettel has for the second consecutive year topped the list of 50 most valuable brands of Vietnam released on Tuesday by Brand Finance, a UK-based brand evaluation company.

-- The Becamex IDC company, the Vietnam – Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), and Sembcorp Smart Energy Solutions Vietnam on Tuesday signed a contract on solar power development in the southern province of Binh Duong. The project will provide rooftop solar power services for industrial, urban and service complexes in the province.

Education

-- A national scientific seminar on the era of Hung Vuong (Hung Kings), the very first founders of Vietnam, was held in Hanoi on Tuesday, attracting more than 200 scientists and researchers across the country. The event aimed to review the findings over the last 50 years about the first nation-building period in the country’s history, and draw experience for future studies.
