-- Vietnamese Party chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong handed the decisions to promote two military officers, Tran Quang Phuong and Do Can, from the rank of Lieutenant General to Senior Lieutenant General during a ceremony in Hanoi on Saturday.

-- The Vietnamese ambassador to the United Kingdom and a delegation of officials have arrived in Essex on Saturday to get updates on the deaths of 39 people in a truck and verify whether or not there is any Vietnamese national among the deceased.

-- Eleven people were injured after a truck crashed into a group of motorcycles waiting at a red light in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on Saturday afternoon. Four of the victims were hospitalized for their severe wounds.

-- A fire broke out in a neighborhood in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau on Saturday evening and burned down seven houses in just about an hour, local authorities confirmed, adding that there were no casualties in the incident.

-- High tide is forecast to peak again in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday next week and put many neighborhoods in the southern metropolis at risk of serious inundation.

-- Officers in north-central Nghe An Province confirmed on Saturday they had launched an investigation into a case where a local company had helped send Vietnamese citizens to work in France by putting them under the guise of tourists and using fake visas.

-- Vietnam attracted US$29.11 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first ten months of 2019, up by 4.3 percent over the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
