Eight suspects have been arrested for being involved in a case where two police officers lost their lives while chasing after a group of street racers and bag snatchers in Da Nang this week.

Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung, chief of staff of the Da Nang Department of Police, confirmed on Friday morning that officers are collecting statements from the suspects.

According to preliminary information, local residents reported a group of young men who allegedly participated in illegal street racing and robbed other road users in Son Tra District on Thursday night.

A team of officers under the district’s police unit later arrived at the location and chased after the suspects.

During the pursuit, two officers, Captain D.T.T., 41, and Sergeant V.V.T., 23, were killed in a road crash.

A citizen was also injured in the accident.

Further investigation is ongoing.
