— Vietnam logged no new cases of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Monday morning. A total of 325 positive cases have been confirmed out of over 280,000 people tested so far, with no deaths reported and over 82 percent of the patients having recovered.

— Ho Chi Minh City police on Sunday said its investigative unit had launched legal proceedings against and arrested Nguyen Tuong Thuy, a 70-year-old man from Hanoi, for “making, storing, spreading information, materials and items for the purpose of opposing the State.”

— Over 300 Vietnamese citizens were brought home from Europe and Africa on Saturday and Sunday on board flights operated by national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.

Lifestyle

— The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) held a ceremony on Sunday to celebrate the Day of Bulgarian Education, Culture, and Slavonic Alphabet.

— The northwestern province of Lao Cai, home to the famous resort town of Sa Pa, has launched a summer tourism promotion program to lure holidaymakers to the locality by discounting admission to local attractions by 10-60 percent until June 28.

Business

— Over 8.2 million households, businesses, hospitals, lodging facilities, and other electricity-using establishments in 21 provinces and cities in southern Vietnam from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau, with the exception of Ho Chi Minh City, will benefit from reduced or scrapped electricity bills until July, according to the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC).

Sports

— Around ten riders were injured in a pile-up that occurred as they raced downhill the Le Pass in the central province of Quang Nam on Sunday as part of the 32nd HTV Cup cycling race. Team Ho Chi Minh City’s white jersey Vo Thanh An, who broke his left hand in the accident, has been forced to forfeit the race due to the injury.

World news

— The novel coronavirus has sickened over 5.49 million people and killed more than 346,600 around the globe as of Monday morning, according to statistics. More than 2.3 million patients have recovered from COVID-19.
