Vietnam reported two new coronavirus cases and one death on Sunday, with Monday morning seeing no additional infections, according to the Ministry of Health.

The two new patients were logged in Da Nang, a tourist city on the central coast, and northern Hai Duong Province.

Both had been in close contact with infected patients and detected in quarantine.

A 73-year-old COVID-19 patient was confirmed dead on Sunday, the health ministry said.

She had a history of terminal chronic renal failure, heart failure, anemia, and hypertension.

Five patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, including four in Da Nang and one in Dong Nai Province.

Vietnam has documented 1,016 infections, 674 of which were domestic, as of Monday morning, when zero new cases were registered.

A total of 568 patients have beaten the virus, whereas 27 pathogen-related fatalities have been recorded, most having suffered serious pre-existing conditions.

A separate patient died on August 12 after having tested negative for the virus four time.

Vietnam has recorded 534 domestic infections since July 25, when Da Nang detected the first community transmission after the country had gone 99 days without locally-transmitted cases.

The nation is quarantining 70,620 people who had direct contact with confirmed patients or entered Vietnam from virus-hit regions at the time of writing.
