Vietnam’s Ministry of Health said on Wednesday morning that a COVID-19 patient had died one day earlier at the age of 36.
This is the second-youngest victim in the country so far.
The patient was a woman hailing from Que Son District, central Quang Nam Province, the health ministry added.
She had a record of end-stage renal failure, 12-year peritoneal dialysis, heart failure, and hypertension.
She was treated and died at Hoa Vang Medical Center in the namesake district of Da Nang, a beach city in central Vietnam.
Her causes of death include pneumonia triggered by COVID-19, septic shock, multiorgan failure, hypertension, heart failure, and peritoneal dialysis, a way to remove waste from a person’s blood when their kidneys are not functioning properly.
Vietnam has confirmed 1,029 coronavirus cases, including 687 domestic infections, since January 23, when the nation reported the first-ever case, according to the Ministry of Health.
Five hundred and ninety-two patients have beaten the virus, while 28 have lost their battle, most having had serious comorbid conditions.
One separate patient died on August 12 after having tested negative for the pathogen four times. This death is not counted in the number of virus-related fatalities.
On August 10, the health ministry announced the death of a 33-year-old COVID-19 patient, the youngest fatality so far.
The oldest victim was a 93-year-old man in Da Nang, who was confirmed dead on August 22.
Vietnam has logged 547 local infections since July 25, when the beach city documented the first domestically transmitted case after the nation had spent 99 days recording no community transmission.
Most of such domestic cases have been linked to Da Nang.
Thirty patients are in a critical condition, with half facing death, the national committee on COVID-19 response said on Tuesday.
