— Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on Friday sent a congratulatory message to Tanzania’s re-elected President John Magufuli, Seychelles’ new President Wavel Ramkalawan, Ivory Coast’s re-elected President Alassane Ouattara, and Guinea’s President Alpha Condé.

— Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong issued a decision to appoint Nguyen Thanh Long, acting Minister of Health, as Minister of Health for the 2016-21 term on Thursday.

— Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, empowered by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on Friday handed over the token of the relief aid of 1,000 metric tons of rice from the Vietnamese government to Lao Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Chanthaphone Khammanichanh to assist flood-hit people in Savanakhet Province.

Society

— Typhoon Vamco was located about 370km east of the central city of Da Nang as of 6:00 am on Saturday, packing winds at 165km per hour.

— The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has decided to close five airports in Quang Nam, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh, Nghe An Provinces and Da Nang City during specific hours on Saturday and Sunday due to Storm Vamco, prompting airlines to delay or cancel several flights to and from these airdromes.

— The central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Saturday morning announced a ban on people from going outside from 12:00 pm the same day until further notice as violent Storm Vamco is approaching the mainland in central Vietnam.

— The Southern Region Hydro-meteorological Observatory on Friday forecast that tide levels in Ho Chi Minh City would be on the rise and are projected to soar to 1.76 meters next Monday, which threatens flooding in low-lying and riverfront areas.

— Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways has won the title 'Asia’s leading regional airline 2020' by World Travel Awards.

Sports

— Nguyen Thi Oanh, a runner from the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Giang who won three gold medals at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, on Friday afternoon finished first in the 10,000m category at the 2020 Vietnam National Athletics Championships in 34:08.54, smashing the national record of 34:48.28 having stood for 17 years.
