Woman nabbed for string of wedding robberies in Vietnam

Police in Vietnam have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing money from several wedding ceremonies, officers said this week.

Tran Thi Ngoc Anh, a 34-year-old from northern Thai Nguyen Province, would pose as a guest to sneak into weddings and skim gift money from the newly-weds’ lockers, police said on Monday.

Most recently, Anh infiltrated a wedding ceremony at the home of Luu Thi Ha in Thai Nguyen on December 19, broke open a locker, and stole VND98.5 million ($4,237) worth of wedding gift money from the family.

She was detained shortly after police officers received the report from Ha’s family.

According to Anh’s testimony at the police station, she had done the same routine at three other wedding ceremonies in the locale.

Police of Thai Nguyen City – the capital city of the namesake province – have also obtained the VND98.5 million stolen from Ha’s family and are working to investigate other cases of theft committed by Anh.
