— Vietnam confirmed 12 new imported cases of COVID-19 on Sunday evening, raising the patient tally to 1,494, with 1,339 recoveries and 35 virus-related deaths.

— Border guards across Vietnam detected 438 cases of illegal entry into the country on Saturday and Sunday.

— People heading back to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City following the New Year holiday triggered severe congestion at the entrances to the two major Vietnamese cities on Sunday afternoon.

— A Gojek motorbike partner was attacked by a conventional motorbike taxi driver while picking up a passenger who had booked a trip via the ride-hailing app on National Highway 1 near An Suong Intersection in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday.

— Police in the southern province of Dong Nai on Sunday arrested a 23-year-old local man hiding in southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province for killing a 42-year-old woman hailing from southern Ben Tre Province with 15 stab wounds to steal her gold ring in October 2020.

— No. 38 Street in Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City was submerged nearly one meter under drain water on Sunday morning despite no rain and medium tide.

— Vietnam will enter the 'elderly population structure' in 2026, which will last for 28 years until 2054, according to an in-depth study of the 2019 population and housing census.
