-- Local authorities in the north-central province of Ha Tinh on Wednesday said they had one day earlier discovered a 250kg tiger fainting due to an electric shock at the house of D.N.Ngh., who later admitted that he had bought the animal from north-central Nghe An Province to produce tiger balm.

-- Police in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa are investigating a case in which a student in Lang Chanh High School allegedly beat a schoolmate, causing the latter to suffer traumatic brain injury.

-- Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday started the construction of the 1,000-bed Hoc Mon General Hospital at a cost of more than VND1,890 billion (US$81 million) funded by the city's coffers.

-- More than 5,300 square meters of dioxin-contaminated land in Ho Cong 2 area at Bien Hoa Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai was detoxified and recovered, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday, quoting the national steering committee on the settlement of post-war unexploded ordnance and toxic chemical consequences in Vietnam (Steering Committee 701),
