-- Leaders of countries around the world have sent messages and letters of congratulations and made phone calls to newly-elected Vietnamese leaders, including State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, during which the leaders discussed recent major issues and achievements of the two nations.

-- Nearly 53,000 people have received COVID-19 vaccination in 19 provinces and cities across Vietnam as of Tuesday morning, according to the Ministry of Health.

-- A woman, who was in her 50s, lost both of her legs after being run over by a train and later succumbed to her serious injuries at the hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday afternoon.

-- Police in Hanoi confirmed on Monday they had arrested a 43-year-old man, who used to be a flight attendant, for running an illegal cigar smuggling ring.

-- Officers in Hanoi have apprehended a 30-year-old man with a history of mental illness for fatally hitting a female street sweeper with a brick on Sunday evening.

-- One person was killed and two others injured after a truck crashed into a motorbike and automobile along National Highway No. 2 in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on Monday afternoon.

-- A 24-year-old employee of an online game center in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City was found dead by hanging on Monday after being locked up by his boss, who thought he had stolen money from the shop.

-- Vietnamese border guards have arrested four members of a racket that smuggled drugs from Laos into Vietnam before transporting them to China. About 350 kilograms of narcotics was also confiscated.

-- Vietnam exported US$10.61 billion worth of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in the first quarter of 2021, up 19.7 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
