Daytime sun, evening storms to rack Vietnam during holiday weekend

Dry and sunny weather in daytime will blanket the whole of Vietnam during Reunification Day on April 30 and International Workers' Day on May 1, with rainstorms forecast to hit each evening, according to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting.
Northern localities should expect daytime sun from April 30 until May 3, with northwestern provinces likely to experience rainstorms during the evening and night.
On May 1 and 2, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in the evening in northern Vietnam, carrying whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts.
Central coastal provinces will experience similar weather patterns, with sunshine during daytime hours.
On May 3, rainstorms, possibly accompanied by lightning, squalls, and whirlwinds may hit mountainous areas in the north and middle-central regions.
Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and southern regions will experience sunlight during the day and local thunderstorms in the evening and at night-time from Friday until next Monday.
These rainstorms may bring lightning, whirlwinds, and strong gusts.
In both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, it will be sunny in the daytime while local rainstorms may occur, together with squalls and lightning, in the evening and at night-time.
The center also forecasts the sunny weather, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius, for such tourist destinations as Da Nang City, Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City, Lam Dong Province’s Da Lat City, Kien Giang Province’s Phu Quoc Island City, Quang Ninh Province’s Ha Long City, Khanh Hoa Province’ Nha Trang City, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province’s Con Dao Island District.
Vietnamese will enjoy a long holiday weekend that stretches from Friday to Monday.
Bad weather hits northern and central region on Thursday
With an enhanced cold front and the convergence of winds, the northern region, including mountainous provinces and the north-central region will experience moderate to heavy rains together with thunderstorms on Thursday, the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting reported.
Many localities in the region will see heavy downpours, with rainfall measuring up to 67 millimeters in Muong To District, Lai Chau Province, 115 millimeters in Thanh Mai Commune, Nghe An Province, and 134 millimeters in Son Tay Commune, Ha Tinh Province.
Meanwhile, moderate and heavy rains, even torrents, together with thunderstorms, may occur in the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh.
Precipitation in the region will range from 30 to 60 millimeters every 12 hours.
In Nghe An and Ha Tinh, it may reach up to 100 millimeters per 12 hours.
Whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts are likely to occur during the rainstorms, while flash floods, landslides, and local inundation may hit mountainous areas, the center warned.
