-- Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Monday attended a national teleconference of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to launch the action plans aimed at implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

COVID-19 Updates

-- The number of COVID-19 patients discovered in the community has been higher than that detected in isolated areas in Ho Chi Minh City over the past days, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said at a meeting on pandemic prevention and control on Monday.

-- Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City will create favorable conditions for people to return to their hometowns in a safe and orderly manner if officials in corresponding localities can draw up specific repatriation plans, vice-chairman Duong Anh Duc said on Monday.

-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has allowed southern provinces and cities to freely decide on the extension of their social distancing drives depending on the pandemic situation in each locality.

-- The Ministry of Health on Monday directed Vietnam Vaccine JSC to allocate 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities to assist pandemic response efforts.


-- The Ho Chi Minh City Military Command will launch an investigation into a case where a truck reportedly transported the bodies of 41 COVID-19 patients from the southern city to the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre for cremation.

-- Six people have had their quarantine period extended after throwing a farewell party at a concentrated quarantine facility in the north-central province of Quang Tri on Sunday.

-- Police in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang confirmed on Monday they had arrested and initiated legal proceedings against a 28-year-old man for assaulting officers at a COVID-19 checkpoint.

-- The People’s Court in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Monday sentenced a 48-year-old man to 18 months in prison for organizing the illegal entry of Vietnamese citizens from Cambodia into Vietnam last year.
