Tire-puncturing nails have become a traffic headache in a suburban district of Ho Chi Minh City, posing a lot of trouble and danger for commuters along major roads.

An increasing number of tire-puncturing nails have recently been found along the section of National Highway No. 1 in Binh Chanh District, according to Dinh Minh Canh, a local resident.

Canh, 52, works as a full-time motorbike taxi driver, but he also dedicates his time to collecting these sharp objects along local streets to ensure safety for commuters.

The man even invented a nail collecting device equipped with wheels and magnets.

After only 30 minutes on Tuesday morning, Canh managed to collect more than 200 tire-puncturing nails along a three-kilometer section of the highway.

Many of these sharp objects are hard to detect as they are rather small and have the same color as the road surface, Canh stated.

“I've noticed many more tire-puncturing nails on National Highway No. 1 since early October,” he elaborated.

“It’s hard to find out when they often spread these nails on the highway.

"I can only try my best to remove as many of them as possible from the road.”

H., a shop owner on National Highway No. 1, said he has seen a lot of people falling victim to these tire-puncturing nails.

Many had to push their motorbikes for a long distance to find a place that could fix their tires, H. stated.

The police unit in Binh Chanh District confirmed that an increasing number of sharp nails have recently appeared along busy streets.

Officers have advised commuters and local residents to promptly report to authorities whenever they notice any incidents related to tire-puncturing nails.

Commuters are recommended to save the contact information of reliable vehicle repair shops and volunteers to get help when their vehicles get into trouble.

People should also use their phones to record evidence whenever they are overcharged for the repair of their flat tires, and submit the proof to local police.
