The Ministry of Health logged 28,291 COVID-19 patients throughout Vietnam on Wednesday, along with 38,943 recoveries and 177 fatalities.

The latest infections, including 69 imported and 28,222 domestic transmissions, were detected in 60 provinces and cities, the ministry said.

Khanh Hoa Province reported 12,928 of the newest local cases, including 12,156 infections found on previous days but registered today; Hanoi 2,948; Binh Dinh Province 702; Ho Chi Minh City 696; Da Nang 592; Hai Phong City 525; Ben Tre Province 499; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 400; Thanh Hoa Province 354; Quang Ninh Province 319; Thua Thien-Hue Province 270; Lam Dong Province 248; Quang Nam Province 208; Can Tho City 161; Binh Thuan Province 134; Dong Nai Province 93; and Binh Duong Province 34.

Vietnam had recorded 16,019 domestically-acquired infections on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country has confirmed 1,952,594 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave erupted on April 27, 2021. Over 1.63 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City is the locality suffering the most with 509,501 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 291,560, Dong Nai Province with 98,965, Tay Ninh Province with 83,619, Hanoi with 76,640, Khanh Hoa Province 54,618, Dong Thap Province with 46,003, Can Tho City with 43,252, Long An Province with 40,874, Tien Giang Province with 34,752, An Giang Province with 34,624, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 28,412, Binh Thuan Province with 27,581, and Da Nang with 15,339.

Vietnam confirmed only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry declared 6,866 patients recovered on Wednesday, taking the tally to 1,635,899.

The toll has climbed to 34,964 deaths after the ministry documented 177 mortalities on the same day, including 18 in Ho Chi Minh City, 13 in Hanoi, 13 in Binh Phuoc Province, 13 in Long An Province, 13 in Tien Giang Province, 11 in Ben Tre Province, and the remainder in 24 other provinces and cities.  

Vietnam has logged 1,958,719 patients, including 31 imported Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered upwards of 163.5 million vaccine doses, including 1,120,898 shots on Tuesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

More than 78.4 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while over 71.5 million have been injected twice.

The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine – has exceeded 13.6 million.
