140,837 new COVID-19 cases documented in 62 of Vietnam’s 63 provinces, cities

The Ministry of Health logged 140,837 coronavirus patients throughout Vietnam on Wednesday, alongside 192,465 recoveries and 61 virus-linked fatalities.

The newest cases, including five imported and 140,832 domestic transmissions, were detected in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily update.

Tuyen Quang Province recorded 15,810 of the latest local cases, including 12,954 found on previous days; Hanoi 13,005; Phu Tho Province 5,307; Nghe An Province 4,425; Bac Ninh Province 4,398; Bac Giang Province 3,997; Dak Lak Province 3,479; Quang Binh Province 3,175; Ben Tre Province 2,870; Quang Ninh Province 2,688; Binh Dinh Province 2,348; Lam Dong Province 2,247; Ho Chi Minh City 1,582; Binh Duong Province 1,457; Tra Vinh Province 1,313; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 1,132; Hai Phong City 965; Khanh Hoa Province 819; Da Nang 712; Quang Nam Province 361; and Can Tho City 124.

The health ministry registered 249,149 infections on Tuesday.

Vietnam has detected 8,472,072 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Upwards of 4.6 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi has been heavily affected with 1,217,307 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 586,910, Binh Duong Province with 364,978, Nghe An Province 360,496, Hai Duong Province 326,098, Bac Ninh Province 307,761, Ca Mau Province 127,142, Tay Ninh Province with 118,112, Hai Phong City 112,137, Dong Nai Province with 105,341, Binh Phuoc Province 102,651, Da Nang with 88,150, and Can Tho City with 48,299.

Vietnam confirmed only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 192,465 recovered patients on Wednesday, raising the national count to 4,661,270.

The toll has climbed to 42,075, with 61 virus-linked mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has reported 8,479,751 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered above 203 million vaccine doses, including 1,115,043 shots on Tuesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 186 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,182,239 first shots, 67,931,682 second doses, 14,768,292 additional primary jabs, and 30,674,785 boosters.    

A combined 17,088,464 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,764,950 first doses and 8,323,514 second jabs.
