Vietnam reports 3,717 new COVID-19 cases, one death

The Ministry of Health registered 3,717 more COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Sunday, along with 2,111 recoveries and one virus-related fatality.

The newest cases, all local transmissions, were found in 53 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report, noting that 2,597 contracted the pathogen in the community.

Hanoi logged 795 of the latest domestic cases, Nghe An Province 210, Yen Bai Province 200, Quang Ninh Province 198, Gia Lai Province 134, Lao Cai Province 121, Quang Binh Province 89, Lam Dong Province 76, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 58, Da Nang 51, Ho Chi Minh City 42, Binh Thuan Province 31, Hai Phong City 17, Quang Nam Province 14, and Can Tho City four.

The Ministry of Health reported 5,109 infections on Saturday.

Vietnam has detected 10,645,777 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Over 9.26 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi leads the caseload with 1,587,131 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 608,450, Nghe An Province 427,868, Binh Duong Province with 383,403, Hai Duong Province 361,356, Bac Ninh Province 339,110, Ca Mau Province 150,124, Tay Ninh Province with 137,291, Hai Phong City 119,646, Binh Phuoc Province 117,791, Dong Nai Province with 106,639, Da Nang with 101,910, and Can Tho City with 49,439.

Vietnam detected only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry confirmed 2,111 recovered patients on Sunday, taking the national count to 9,264,366.

The toll has risen to 43,042, with one pathogen-linked mortality added today. 

Vietnam has documented 10,653,526 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given close to 215 million vaccine doses, including 165,004 shots on Saturday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 196 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,459,191 first shots, 68,643,559 second doses, 15,307,489 additional primary jabs, and 39,125,594 boosters.    

A combined 17,376,198 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,907,656 first doses and 8,468,542 second jabs.

A total of 1,521,234 doses have been given to children aged 5-11.
