Vietnam adds 3,088 coronavirus cases, 3 deaths

The Ministry of Health logged 3,088 new COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Wednesday, alongside 42,055 recoveries and three virus-related mortalities.

The newest cases, all local transmissions, were reported in 48 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report, noting that 2,105 were infected in the community.

Hanoi recorded 705 of the latest domestic cases, Phu Tho Province 268, Nghe An Province 133, Quang Ninh Province 130, Quang Binh Province 60, Lam Dong Province 52, Ho Chi Minh City 36, Hai Phong City 35, Binh Duong Province 29, Da Nang 24, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 14, Thua Thien-Hue Province seven, and Khanh Hoa Province five.

The Ministry of Health confirmed 2,709 infections on Tuesday.

Vietnam has detected 10,654,696 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 9.3 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi leads the case count with 1,589,308 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 608,531, Nghe An Province 428,230, Binh Duong Province with 383,465, Hai Duong Province 361,540, Bac Ninh Province 339,289, Ca Mau Province 150,167, Tay Ninh Province with 137,331, Hai Phong City 119,703, Binh Phuoc Province 117,856, Dong Nai Province with 106,653, Da Nang with 102,054, and Can Tho City with 49,443.

Vietnam registered only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry documented 42,055 recovered patients on Tuesday, raising the national count to 9,309,336.

The toll has increased to 43,047, with three pathogen-linked deaths added today. 

Vietnam has found 10,662,446 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given more than 215 million vaccine doses, including 17,009 shots on Tuesday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 196 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,459,628 first shots, 68,645,188 second doses, 15,309,362 additional primary jabs, and 39,169,020 boosters.    

A combined 17,377,112 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,908,013 first doses and 8,469,099 second jabs.

A total of 1,555,804 doses have been given to children aged 5-11.
