A bus driver was fined and had his driving license suspended for blowing through a red light in busy traffic in Ho Chi Minh City on the weekend after images of his offense were spread on social media.
The traffic police of Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday asked L. A. L., 51, to come to their office to pay a VND5 million (US$215) fine for his violation of traffic laws.
L. also had his driver’s license revoked for two months for his infringement, police said.
The penalties were imposed after a video clip surfaced on social media of a bus driven by L. running the lights at the crowded junction of Pham Van Dong Boulevard and Road 20 in Hiep Binh Chanh Ward, Thu Duc, at 6:00 pm on Saturday.
At that time, as many as 35 seconds were left before the traffic lights would turn green, police reported.

L.’s traffic violation was recorded by a dash-mounted camera from the car of a man who posted the video clip on social media.
Through the images in the clip, police identified the bus as belonging to the city-based Quyet Thang Transport Bus Cooperative and determined its driver to be L..
This case was among many post-violation penalties applied by traffic police in the city and Vietnam in general over the past several years.
The sanctioning will be determined and issued based on images of traffic infringements recorded by police’s traffic surveillance cameras installed on streets or by photos or video clips provided by the public.
