A traffic accident occurred between a light truck and a one-way train in the south-central Vietnamese province of Binh Thuan on Thursday afternoon, with the truck driver dying en route to the hospital.

The light truck, driven by 39-year-old Nguyen Thanh Thao, was carrying rice straw when it collided with the SPT 1 train, from Phan Thiet City in province to Ho Chi Minh City, on a concreted road in Ham Thuan Bac District.

The truck was tossed during the collision and flipped over.

Passers-by took driver Thao to the hospital for emergency treatment, but he died on the way.

There are no signal lights and guard rails, but only warning signs, at the junction where the crash happened.

Police and related functional forces investigated the scene and carried out a forensic examination to determine the cause.
