An employee of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang City in central Vietnam was suspended after being caught on camera rudely throwing money at a local restaurant and having a gang threaten the venue owner over a cash change dispute.
The natural resources department announced the suspension of D.C.P., a deputy head at the department’s center for land fund development, at noon on Monday.
In addition, P. is subject to punishments by competent agencies for violating the law on public order and security in accordance with regulations, according to the department.
P. did not respond to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s phone calls and text messages on Monday morning for comment on the controversy.
P.’s suspension followed a video shared on Facebook by H.Tr., the owner of a noodle restaurant on Chuong Duong Street in Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District, showing the deputy head throwing money at the venue.
In the caption of the video, Tr. said that when the restaurant was too crowded and ran out of large bills, his staff gave a customer around 16 years old VND25,000 (US$1.05) change in small cash.
A man who claimed to be the teenage customer’s father then came to the restaurant and said, “How dared you give my child trash?” and threatened that the business would not last long, according to Tr.’s account.
Tr. also asserted in the caption that the man is “P., who works for the local government’s N.R. department,” as Tr. referred to the natural resources department.
Tr. and his staff members also added that P. sent a gang to the restaurant to menace Tr. on Sunday afternoon.
The restaurant owner then reported the incident to local authorities.
