Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam has said that the ministry is considering the feasibility of using unmanned aircraft and manufacturing 32-meter ladder trucks to fight fires at high-rise buildings.
Minister Lam disclosed the plan in a recent report to the National Assembly, which showed that 1,748 fires occurred nationwide, killing 105 people, injuring 95 others, and causing property damage of VND1 trillion (US$42.8 million) from October 2021 to September of this year.
During this period, 20 explosions killed 13 people, injuring 20 others, and causing property damage of VND5 billion ($207,168).
The causes of 1,315 fires have been clarified while 433 others are still under investigation.
Rescuers saved and sent 5,147 people to safety and found 753 victims’ bodies.
Currently, 209 works across the country do not meet the requirements on fire prevention and fighting as they had been put into use before the law took effect.
As many as 1,253 facilities also need repairs to ensure fire safety requirements.
The report also showed that 13,357 administrative violations of fire prevention and fighting regulations were booked last year.
The ministry also dealt with 51 units and 127 individuals in the firefighting sector that let serious violations happen.
For solutions, the Ministry of Public Security emphasized the importance of technology application, such as developing a software to manage the database of fire prevention and fighting and quickly spread fire reports online, using unmanned drones and manufacturing 32-meter ladder trucks to fight fires at high-rise buildings.
