Da Nang City is providing Wi-Fi at no charge for workers living in 18 boarding houses in Cam Le, Lien Chieu, and Son Tra Districts, according to the municipal Department of Information and Communications.
Answering questions of members of the municipal People’s Council over the provision of free Wi-Fi in tenanted facilities in the coastal city, the department reported that it had cooperated with the municipal Labor Union to survey boarding houses of workers.
They later installed free-of-charge Wi-Fi systems in five boarding houses in Hoa Tho Tay Ward, Cam Le District.
The systems were put into use on October 20.
In Lien Chieu District, 36 similar systems were provided in nine tenanted houses in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park.
In addition, eight Wi-Fi access points were established in four boarding houses in the Da Nang Industrial Park.
According to the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, these free Wi-Fi systems are connected with the city’s Internet network, are regularly checked, and have an Internet speed of over 40Mbps.
During peak hours, specifically in evenings and on Sundays, some 300-400 people concurrently access the network.
The department will next year continue joining hands with the municipal Labor Union and the People’s Committees of districts to draw up a plan to offer free Wi-Fi in 20 remaining areas where there are many boarding houses for workers.
