Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City booked a driver after he ignored traffic police officers’ direction and knocked down a police motorcycle before fleeing the scene along a street in District 5 on Monday.
The driver, 37-year-old Ly Quang D. living in neighboring Dong Nai Province, was fined for ‘failure to obey traffic signals’ and ‘failure to obey traffic conductors’ orders.’
A team of traffic police officers in District 5 started chasing D. after his car ran a red light at the intersection of Nguyen Tri Phuong Street and Nguyen Trai Street at 12:40 pm on Monday.
The team caught up with D.’s car near the intersection of Tran Hung Dao Street and Huynh Man Dat Street and tried to pull him over.
However, D. ran his car into the traffic police officers’ motorcycle and fled the scene.
The officers only successfully stopped D. at the intersection of Vo Van Kiet Street and Tran Dinh Xu Street in District 1.
At that time, D. and a woman holding a child got out of the car, explaining that the child was sick and they were on the way to a hospital, so he fled in a panic, and committed the above violations.
D. admitted to the violations and tests showed his zero alcohol and drug levels.
A video capturing the moment the traffic police motorcycle being knocked down went viral on social media on the same day.
