Authorities of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday to commence construction of a new bridge worth over VND1.88 trillion (US$80 million) spanning the Perfume River in Hue City.
The new bridge will connect Bui Thi Xuan Street and Kim Long Street.
It will be built as a steel arch bridge with five spans, stretching 380 meters long and 43 meters wide, offering six car lanes, two motorbike lanes, and two pedestrian lanes.
Fundings for the project come from the government’s budget.

Construction is expected to reach completion after three years and the bridge will become the fifth spanning the iconic river in Hue City, with vehicles allowed to run at 60 kilometers per hour on the structure.
After that, authorities will continue to carry out the embellishment of a one-kilometer section of Nguyen Hoang Street connected with the bridge.
The two phases of the project, which is meant to help prevent traffic congestion and reduce pressure on National Highway 1A and inner-city routes through the center of Hue City, cost a total investment of more than VND2.28 trillion ($96.7 million).
