Food safety authorities in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam said on Friday that they had fined a company VND240 million (US$10,234) after discovering nearly 24 metric tons of rotten foods including chicken, beef and animal organs at its two warehouses in Bien Hoa City.
Seven metric tons of the decayed foods were found at a warehouse of Long Phat Co., Ltd in the city’s Tan Hiep Ward and the remaining amount was discovered at another venue in Phuoc Tan Ward.
Functional forces later destroyed all of them.
At the time of the detection, the foods were emitting a foul odor and were in a stage of decomposition.
Most of their packages did not carry labels while some others had foreign words.
Long Phat, which is based in Tan Hiep Ward and chaired and directed by Nguyen Chi Hieu, said the company had purchased the foods online and from some sources in the northern region for reselling to restaurants and eateries in Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.
Police officers determined that the company had failed to notify the local business registration office its operation venues, failed to obtain a certificate of food safety in accordance with regulations, and traded goods of unknown origin.
As a result, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai imposed a fine of VND240 million on Long Phat.
